The Bromeliad Plant is a flowering plant that usually thrives well in a warm tropical climate. It belongs to the family of the Spanish moss and the pineapple representing several other ground plants. The bromeliad plant keeps water in a tank, thanks to its overlapping leaves. There are a variety of bromeliad plants including the Puya raimodii which grows to about 3-4m. It grows among other types of vegetation and has a flower spike close to 10m. Of course the smallest bromeliad plant is the Spanish moss.

Bromeliad plants are rampant in all the Americas. They normally do well up to sea level depths of 4200m. Bromeliad plants grow in both deserts and rainforests. Columbia, Peru, Chile and Florida especially during the tropical season are among the countries in which these plants do quite well. Bromeliad plants have different shapes and sizes: some broad while others are flat. Others are very soft while some are sticky as well. Bromeliad plants exist in several colors; maroon being the commonest while other colors are yellow, red, white and cream.

It is very easy to identify bromeliad plants because their flowers could easily grow up to a height of 10m and a width of 2-3mm. The bromeliad plant flower determines their height and flowers as well. In some other species you may only have a view of the plant but not the flower. Well, what about the root systems? The bromeliad plant has various rooting systems—the most unusual being that of the terrestrial plant which has a root system that is able to take in minerals, water and nutrients. The epiphytic species form hard wiry roots which adhere to rocks and trees. What of the blooms? The blooms of the bromeliad plant are known as Tillandsia cyanea with a smell typical to that of the clove.

The bromeliad plant has numerous uses from time immemorial. They can be used for protection, food, fiber and community ceremonies. For instance, the use of a pineapple among the Spanish warriors was very common. The bromeliad plant is also commonly used in sculpture and architecture as well. The bromeliad plant is also beautiful to have around.
